DS Automobiles: DS9 - Global ambitions!

PSA Group’s premium brand unveils its new large sedan, the DS9.

DS Automobiles is making a remarkable comeback at the GIMS 2020. For nearly 20 years, the French “high-end” segment did not have a real alternative to the big German brands.

Created in France and produced in China, the DS9’s dimensions are similar to the Audi A6: 4,93 m long, 1,85 m wide, with a 2,90 m wheelbase. Grounds to imagine a “presidential” future!  Its 4-door coupe shape resembles its cousin, the Peugeot 508. Not surprising as the DS9 shares PSA group’s EMP2 platform with the Lioness in its long wheelbase version, as the 508 is equipped in the Middle Kingdom.

Despite this relationship, the DS9 sports numerous DS stylistic elements, in particular on the bodywork and accessories. The traditional DS Wings grille groups the headlights and a few touches pay tribute to the 1955 DS, most notably the additional set of indicator lights above the rear window.

The interior is largely inspired from the design concept introduced on the DS7 Crossback; it’s possible to choose the leather from various styles available in the catalogue.

Under the hood the DS9 will initially be available as a 225 hp E-Tense plug-in hybrid. The powertrain couples a 1.6-litre 180 hp and a 100 hp electric engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Two other versions will be introduced later, a 250 hp and a 360 hp with four-wheel drive.
The 11,9 kWh battery enables all-electric travel of between 40 and 50 km. A full charge takes 1.5 hours on a domestic or public charging station with the cable supplied standard (7,4 kW charger).
In addition, a 100% petrol 225 hp version is also planned.

To guarantee lavish comfort for its sedan, the DS9 is equipped with features such as Active Scan Suspension which scans the road with a camera as well as Level 2 semi-autonomous driving and night vision.

The DS9 will be available for sale in the second half of 2020 at a currently unknown price.
